Delegation of Doctors from Syria Visited PRMU
On June 15, 10 doctors from the Syrian hospital of Al Hosn visited Privolzhsky Research Medical University in Nizhny Novgorod
The overseas colleagues asked about the challenges that international students face, including those related to the Russian language immersion. The students said that everyone had adapted to the language environment completely by the 3rd year because of having taken an intensive course of Russian. Moreover, the university programs can also be taught in English.
When Dr. Khaled Yaziji, head of the Syrian delegation, director of the Al Hosn hospital, asked if Syrian students were a success, Irina Stelnikova, Dean of the Faculty of International Medical Education, noted that Syrian students stood out for their hard work and highest academic motivation: ‘These guys are well aware that they are responsible for their studies. They understand what they are here for’. In his turn, Dr. Khaled Yaziji referred to the high level of development of medical technologies both in Russia in general and at PRMU, in particular: ‘I see the way you are taught here to treat patients well and how warmly you are treated here. Please be exploring all avenues to become your better self day by day. I am sure that you will return home as highly qualified specialists. We are ready to expand cooperation with PRMU, especially in terms of upgrading the skills of our subspecialists. The university has state-of-the-art technical equipment and uses best practices when training its staff. We are now planning to open a medical department at the hospital supported by the Russian Orthodox Church and looking forward to cooperation with PRMU in this context, which includes the development of academic programs whilegetting Nizhny Novgorod colleagues to teach’.
Tamara Bardinskaya, Head of International Affairs Department of PRMU: ‘From this year forward, with the changes in the world’s economic landscape in mind, we are introducing a system of discounts for international students on behalf of Nikolay Karyakin, Rector of PRMU. What is more, tuition has held steady for this year. We realize that the systems of educational credential recognition have unique features in different countries; we continue targeting towards the recognition of PRMU diplomas without our graduates having to take extra examinations. For example, our diplomas are recognized in Morocco, Iran, Iraq, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, we are negotiating with Egypt. Rossotrudnichestvo renders great assistance in this'.
The parties agreed that the so-called medical tourism could also become a promising line of cooperation. Patients with complex diagnoses from Syria can receive treatment at PRMU where federal-level expertise in endoprosthetics, treating burns, oncology, patient rehabilitation, and many other areas is centered.
After meeting with the students, the foreign doctors were shown PRMU University Hospital – its technical equipment, specificities of patient routing, etc.
The Al Hosn Patriarchal hospital is located in the diocese of Akkar of the Orthodox Church of Antioch, Homs province. The hospital gave medical aid to those who were seriously injured during the hostilities in the Arab Republic.
The Russian Orthodox Church provides the medical center with great support. It supplies modern equipment there, which is why the hospital is called a patriarchal one.
Earlier, the delegation visited the hospital of St. Alexis in Moscow. The Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Kirill, welcomed the Syrian guests at the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour.
