Village Maslenitsa Festival

On March 10, 2024, FIME students and their advisers participated in the Village Maslenitsa Festival at Shchelokovsky Khutor Museum-Reserve. International students learned what "zaigryshi" – a cheerful start of the Pancake Week – was. Together with the teachers-advisers, they plunged into a traditional celebration of the Pancake Week in the Nizhny Novgorod region. Fun village games, long, drawn out songs, old Russian customs and theatrical performances created a unique atmosphere of outdoor pre-Lenten festivities. The overseas students were delighted to take part in round dance games, to try Russian pancakes, and to see how "tepliny" were lit at the end of a traditional game. Those were the first Maslenitsa bonfires to "burn" winter before warm days settle in. Our foreign guests are looking forward to the latter coming soon!
