The faculty has always been the main base for training personnel for the sanitary and epidemiological service, doctors of medical specialties (occupational pathology, infectious diseases), scientific and scientific-pedagogical personnel. Graduates of the faculty work in all federal districts of the country as specialists and heads of bodies and institutions of Rospotrebnadzor, Roszdravnadzor, in the health management bodies of the subjects of the Russian Federation, as hospital epidemiologists, doctors of clinical and laboratory diagnostics. Among the graduates of the faculty are well—known scientists, the founders of scientific schools and directions.

Faculty History

The Medical and Preventive Faculty (until 1990 — sanitary and hygienic) was opened in 1931. The first graduation of sanitary doctors took place in 1935 and amounted to 26 people. The faculty has a complicated history associated with the repeated revision of the functions of a sanitary doctor, different approaches to the development of the preventive direction and the health care system as a whole. Twice in its history (in 1935 and in 1960), admission to study was suspended, on the contrary, the 1960s-80s were the heyday of the faculty, which coincided with the development of the state sanitary and epidemiological service of the country. During its existence, the faculty has produced about 5 thousand doctors.

The history of the formation and development of the faculty is closely connected with the names of its leaders. The first dean of the faculty was associate professor N.I. Vedernikov.

In different years, the faculty was headed by Professor N.K. Shifrin, Professor R.N. Budrin, Professor I.I. Belyaev, Professor A.F. Efremov, Professor N.E. Yakhontov, associate Professor Yu.A. Litvinov, Professor S.E. Kvasov, Professor N.A. Tartygin, Professor V.V. Safronov, associate Professor A.V. Leonov. Currently, the Dean of the Faculty is the Head of the Department of Economics, Management and Medical Law, MD, Associate Professor Tatyana Vasilyevna Pozdeeva.
